Which are the most popular funds this ISA season?

Investors have had a lively start to 2023. The FTSE 100 – the index of the 100 largest companies listed on the UK stock market – has topped 8,000 for the first time in history, and we’re currently experiencing a banking crisis of sorts, after the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and the suspension of European banking shares.

So, as we approach the end of the tax year, many investors who have yet to invest their ISA allowance will no doubt be wondering where to turn.

To give you some inspiration, we had a look at which funds and topics have been the most popular among FundCalibre visitors over the past six weeks* – the areas they are researching as they make their own decisions about where to invest their money.

Most popular funds and trusts this ISA season

The most popular fund over the past six weeks has been The City of London Investment Trust. A conservatively managed UK equity income product, its focus on stable large UK companies and unbeaten track record of raising its dividend each year for the past 56 years no doubt has a lot of appeal in an uncertain world.

It is, however, only one of two UK funds in the top 15, which is dominated by nine global equity income funds – six of which are global equity income offerings. This suggests investors are wanting to diversify their equity and income exposure.

And, despite the improving outlook and new opportunities in bonds in recent months, only two bond funds make it into the top 15: Allianz Strategic Bond and Artemis Corporate Bond.
